Marking the Beginning of the Yarn when
Winding onto a Cone |
When winding yarn onto a cone or wool
winder, tie a long piece of contrasting waste yarn to the
beginning of the main yarn.
Then, when you are merrily knitting away
and not noticing that the cone is running out, the contrast
colour of the waste yarn will warn you to stop before your
stitches fall off!!! |

Marker Rows for
Picking up Stitches |
To highlight a row of
stitches that will need to be picked up later, use a contrasting
weaving thread.
Put weaving brushes
into work, and bring alternate needles forward to D position.
Lay the contrast thread over the needles in D position and knit
1 row. Then continue to knit normally according to the
pattern.
When the knitting is
removed from the machine, the contrast yarn will show the
row of stitches to be picked up.
To remove the contrast yarn, first pull one
end slightly to straighten the yarn. Then go to the other
end of the yarn and pull, and it will slide out easily. |

Buttonhole Bands on
Babies' Cardigans |
If the sex of an
unborn baby is not known, do buttonholes on both bands.
The buttons can then be sewn onto the correct side, once the
baby is born. |
